Planning guide
Eight things to check before your first kayak or paddleboard outing.
Checklist
Look at the forecast before you leave and again when you arrive. Wind is the usual problem on open water. If it looks rough, skip it or wait. Each location page and our terms cover weather and cancellations.
Life jackets are required for every paddler, kids included. Put it on before you push off and keep it on until you are back on land.
Cold water can be dangerous even on a warm day. Dress for the water, not the air, and stay close to shore if you are not sure.
Tell a friend or family member where you are going and when you expect to be back.
Water, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses with a strap, and shoes that can get wet. Keep your phone in a dry bag or a sealed pouch.
Pick a short loop along the shoreline. Watch for boats and give them room. You can go farther next time.
Book online, use the lock code in your confirmation to open the rack, paddle, then return the gear, lock the rack and send a photo of it locked. There is no counter or staff on site.
If you need help with a booking or the rack, call 715-913-7879. In an emergency on the water, call 911.
